Dr. Stephen O’ Connor is a GDC registered Specialist and Consultant Orthodontist.
Dr. O'Connor holds and NHS Consultant post at Guys and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, United Kingdom – the largest dental hospital and training center in Europe. Dr. O’ Connor also holds an Honorary Senior Specialist Clinical Teacher position with the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences of Kings College London, ranked number one in Europe in the QS world university rankings.
As a recognized expert in complex facial skeletal correction, Dr. O'Connor’s primary roles as a consultant are in leading the orthognathic surgical service (surgery of the facial skeleton), managing care of complex hypodontia (congenitally missing teeth) and acting as a clinical supervisor overseeing the teaching and training of under-graduate dental students, post-graduate orthodontic specialist trainee's and specialist orthodontists undertaking consultant training.
As clinical lead of the orthognathic surgical service Dr. O’ Connor undertakes treatment to correct severe jaw and facial discrepancies, seamlessly collaborating across disciplinary boundaries to restore optimal facial harmony, occlusal and airway function, and bite alignment. Furthermore, he has profound clinical expertise in the deployment of Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) / ‘Orthodontic miniscrews’. When necessary, Dr. O’ Connor routinely incorporates such skeletal anchorage systems into clinical practice to achieve precise, predictable tooth movement to effectively resolve complex malocclusions.
As an educator, Dr. O'Connor serves as an expert speaker for Solventum (formerly 3M Health Care), lecturing both nationally and internationally on cutting-edge digital orthodontic workflows and advanced appliance mechanics and material systems. He holds the prestigious academic appointment of Honorary Senior Specialist Clinical Teacher with the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences at King's College London. In this role, he supervises the clinical training of undergraduate dental students, postgraduate specialist trainees, and orthodontic consultants-in-training. Additionally, he serves as an expert mentor with the IAS Academy, guiding postgraduate dental clinicians through safe, evidence-based orthodontic protocols. Dr. O’ Connor is a faculty member of the annual Step-by-Step Orthognathic Surgical Symposium at the Royal Society.
At the forefront of clinical innovation, Dr O'Connor lends his clinical expertise to advancement of contemporary orthodontic systems, serving as an advisory and development board member with advanced clear aligner systems. In this capacity, he actively collaborates on development initiatives to shape next-generation clear aligner technologies and digital enhancement of fixed appliance systems.
Dr O'Connor is a registered specialist with the General Dental Council (GDC) and an active member of the British Orthodontic Society (BOS), the European Orthodontic Society (EOS), the European Lingual Orthodontic Society (ELOS), the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) and the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO).
Dr. O’ Connor undertakes private orthodontic practice in London for children and adults with all forms of orthodontic and craniofacial problems on the prestigious Harley Street where he acts as the lead orthodontist within a multidisciplinary specialist team. His clinical focus centers on facial aesthetics, digital orthodontics and multidisciplinary care for management of complex malocclusions, and combined orthodontic and orthognathic surgical care. He has a special interest in combining advanced orthodontic techniques to create and enhance facial and smile aesthetics.
